The essence of the religious practice of all Bodhisattvas lies in “benefiting the self and benefiting others".

Through a process of deep internalization Master T’an-luan (曇鸞大師) understood the phrase as “others benefiting (me) and (my) benefiting others.”

Although we desire to help those around us, we are unaware of how much they are helping us.
