Deep sorrow contains its own history.

Compassion that is able to embrace such sorrow must itself have shared the same experience.

The words “Together with all beings without exception I would like to attain birth in the Pure Land” that constitute the last half of the ekomon (merit-transference gatha) to be chanted at the end of the service are filled with this same boundless love and compassion.
