In 1989, based on Ekai-ni's Great Prayer, Shogyoji Temple established the Shogyoji Kasugayama Gagaku Hall to give people a place where they could study Gagaku music and dance. With this building as their training centre, the Shogyoji Gagaku Group developed into the Chikushi Gagaku Institute (Chikushi Gakuso in Japanese), an institute unconfined by the limitations of sects or religions. Since the establishment of the institute, members have enjoyed receiving instruction from musicians of the Imperial Music Department. Though members have recently been responding to various requests, cultural and social as well as religious, by opening their doors to the wider public, the main purpose of their activities is clearly centred on dedicating Gagaku music and dance to Amida Tathagata and Shinran Shonin.
